В отпуске не хочется оставаться без интернета и хоть много где есть Wi-Fi, но он не всегда стабилен и не везде все таки есть. Во многих странах очень дорогая мобильная связь и покупка местной сим может обернуться очень дорого, но это не про Вьетнам.
Хочу рассказать про местного оператора Vietnamobile. Вообще во Вьетнаме есть три крупных оператора мобильной связи, это Mobifone, Viettel и Vinaphone, местная «большая тройка». Когда я заблаговременно пытался найти информацию про мобильный интернет во Вьетнаме я находил информацию только про эти три оператора, но совершенно случайно нашел ещё информацию, что есть ещё один оператор Vietnamobile. Про него речь и пойдет далее, а так же попробуем сравнить условия Vietnamobile с условиями других операторов.
Вообще, так сложилась конкуренция, что цены у операторов большой тройки практически идентичны и нет смысла особо заморачиваться при выборе только из них.
Давайте посмотрим, что нам предлагает большая тройка, возьмём к примеру Mobifone — самый дешёвый интернет пакет на месяц стоит 70000 донгов (примерно 199.50 руб) и за эти деньги мы получим 3.8 гигабайт на месяц, есть так же пакеты с более большим количеством трафика:
— 5.5 гигабайт за 90000 донгов (примерно 256.50 рублей)
— 8.8 гигабайт за 120000 донгов (примерно 342 рубля)
— 16.5 гигабайт за 200000 донгов (примерно 570 рублей)
— 33 гигабайта за 300000 донгов (примерно 855 рублей)
— 44 гигабайта за 400000 донгов (примерно 1140 рублей)
— 55 гигабайт за 500000 донгов (примерно 1425 рублей)
Цены не очень низкие, очень даже не низкие, я в России за безлимитный мобильный интернет 340 рублей в месяц плачу + ещё 100 минут по всей РФ входит, а тут такая цена…
Но я ведь не зря сказал, что связь дешёвая, главное знать где ее искать 
Оператор Vietnamobile на сайте предлагает нам интернет тариф vEasy стоимостью всего 50000 донгов в месяц (примерно 142.50 рублей) и предоставляет по нему 2 гигабайта ежедневно в течении месяца, получается максимально 60 гигабайт в месяц за такие маленькие деньги, отлично, решено купить сим у них.
Вот на этом этапе есть небольшая проблема, так как оператор достаточно небольшой, то и фирменных офисов обслуживания у него очень мало и они есть только в больших городах. Сим карты так же продают и посредники в виде очень маленьких магазинчиков со всякой мелочью. Так же сим карты продают посредники в аэропорту по цене 200000 донгов (примерно 570 рублей). Но у посредников я покупать не хотел, так как цена мне казалась завышенной и нет такого выбора тарифов
у них. На официальном сайте оператора есть удобная карта фирменных салонов, где можно найти ближайший салон, а так же узнать время его работы.
В итоге я нашел один относительно удобный мне официальный салон в Ханое, обратился туда за покупкой сим, сотрудник очень хорошо говорил на английском, что является плюсом и не было проблем с коммуникацией, сотрудник выслушал что я хочу и предложил другой, более выгодный вариант. Оказывается, этот тариф vEasy достаточно старый, хоть и до сих пор активный, его можно приобрести как в фирменных салонах, так и у посредников, но сейчас есть более новый и интересный тариф. Тариф называется Thanh sim, данный тариф продается только в фирменных офисах Vietnamobile, у посредников данного тарифа нет, как сказали мне в офисе. Именно поэтому я указываю информацию про оба тарифа, поскольку не все будут искать фирменный офис, тогда им проще будет купить старый тариф vEasy, который можно прикрепить к любой сим.
В офисе выдали вот такую карточку с сим картой, на лицевой стороне которой указан тариф и его очень краткое описание:
На обратной стороне сим карты есть краткая информация о том, как поверить баланс, остаток пакета услуг при его наличии, а так же указан номер телефона и срок, до которого эту сим необходимо активировать:
Очень удобно, что сим карта выполнена из нескольких размеров, т. е. можно выбрать необходимый размер под свой смартфон.
Вернёмся к тарифу Thanh sim, фишка этого тарифа в том, что интернет на нем предоставляется совершенно бесплатно, главное условие это ежемесячное пополнение счета сим карты на 20000 донгов (всего то 57 рублей). Данные средства Вы можете потратить на звонки и смс, а интернет будет предоставлен совершенно бесплатно по 2 гигабайта каждый день в течении месяца, получается ровно столько же, сколько и на тарифе vEasy. Сама сим карта стоит 40000 донгов (примерно 114 рублей), из них 20000 это плата за подключение и 20000 донгов будет на балансе, первый месяц интернета включен. В итоге я получил интернет с огромным количеством трафика за чуть более чем 100 рублей на весь период отпуска. Звонки на любых операторов внутри страны стоят 680 донгов (около 2 рублей), смс по стране 300 донгов (около 85 копеек). На звонки и смс мы и тратим наши 20000 донгов, интернет в любом случае бесплатный, главное раз в месяц пополнять баланс.
Забыл упомянуть, что для оформления сим карты не нужен даже паспорт, только 40000 наличными, карты в офисе не принимают) Там же в офисе сотрудник компании сразу активирует сим с помощью специального прибора, поэтому после установки ее в смартфон она сразу начинает работать, не нужно никаких манипуляций.
Из неудобных моментов только то, что приходит много смс от оператора на вьетнамском языке и как я не пытался перевести, но все равно ни одной смс так и не понял, онлайн переводчик половину слов даже не понимает) Знаю, что некоторые операторы предлагают такую возможность для туристов, что можно изменить текст смс оповещений на английский, но у данного оператора такой услуги нет, поэтому я просто не обращаю внимание на входящие смс, хотя приходит их очень много по 3-4 смс в день. Но большинство из них это различные рекламные акции и спецпредложения оператора.
По поводу покрытия все прекрасно, никаких проблем со связью не испытывал, в дали от города протестировал скорость интернета и пинг в сети 4G, получилось как-то так:
В целом отличный результат, тем более за такие деньги.
Такое понятие как внутренний роуминг тут полностью отсутствует, не важно в каком регионе купить сим карту, она будет одинаково работать во всех регионах Вьетнама. Я проехал по 4 разным регионам и никаких проблем со связью не испытывал в том числе и за пределами населенных пунктов.
Связью более чем доволен и в случае посещения Вьетнама рекомендую обратить внимание на этого оператора.
Связь во Вьетнаме
Вьетнам является страной с хорошо развитыми сетями фиксированной и сотовой телефонной связи, а также широкополосным Интернетом. Местные операторы сети уже завершили испытания по 5G и готовятся к запуску к следующему году. Это соответствует цели правительства сделать страну одной из первых в АСЕАН по внедрению этой технологии. Пока же превалирует 4g.
Внутри Вьетнама нет роуминга, вызовы внутри сотовых сетей в любом населенном пункте или провинции осуществляются просто по существующим тарифам.

Операторы сотовой связи
Вьеттел Мобайл (Viettel Mobile) — это торговая марка фирмы Viettel Corporation). Является самым крупным оператором мобильной сотовой связи Вьетнама. Ему принадлежит 41% рынка. Организован министерством обороны Вьетнама. Кроме мобильной, Viettel предоставляет услуги фиксированной связи.
Винафон (VinaPhone) — Vietnam Telecom Services Company (VinaPhone). Это оператор мобильной связи в стандарте GSM. Имеет 30% рынка. Находится во владении VPNT (Vietnam Post and Telematics). Была основана 26 июня 1996 года в качестве национального оператора мобильной связи в стандарте GSM.
Мобифон (MobiFone) — торговая марка фирмы Mobile Telecom Services Company. Входит в числе крупнейших операторов мобильной связи в стандарте GSM во Вьетнаме. Ему принадлежит 18% рынка. Находится во владении государственной компании VPNT (Vietnam Post and Telematics).
Вьетнам Мобайл (Vietnamobile). Вышел на рынок страны позднее остальных операторов. Имеет 8 % рынка. Учредители: Hutchison, Hanoi Telecom.
Джи-Мобайл (GMobile) — торговая марка фирмы GTelMobile. Единственный акционер — Министерство общественной безопасности Вьетнама. Имеет 3% рынка. В 2007 г. российский «Вымпелком» подписал соглашение о создании во Вьетнаме СП с местным министерством общественной безопасности. Но, в 2012 г. «Вымпелком» вышел из СП.
Эс-Фон (S-Fone) — торговая марка фирмы CDMA Mobile Phone Center. Является оператор мобильной связи в стандарте CDMA2000, работающий в полосе частот 800 МГц. Имеет только 0.1% рынка.Находится во владении SPT (Saigon Post and Telecommunication Service Corporation). Ранее являлась совместным предприятием SPT и SK Telecom из Южной Кореи (вышла в 2010 г.).
Рус Вьет Телеком (RusVietTelecom). Аффилированная с группой «Антарес» компания Alltech Telecom строит LTE сети во Вьетнаме (СП RusVietTelecom с вьетнамской VNPT) и планирует создать LTE сеть в Камбодже.
Набор номера из России во Вьетнам
Номера телефонов сотовой связи, зарегистрированных в России, состоят из 10 цифр, а во Вьетнаме — из 9 цифр. Далее по тексту если пишется «номер телефона» применительно к телефонам сотовой связи, то имеются в виду российские номера без первой восьмерки, а вьетнамские — без первого ноля.
При выходе на международную связь с телефона фиксированной связи в России первой набирается 8. В большинстве других странах, в том числе во Вьетнаме, вместо 8 используется 0.
После 8 идет гудок, после гудка надо набирать или 10, если Вы выходите на международную линию через Ростелеком. Если же через другого оператора, то набираются другие две цифры (необходимо узнавать в справочных службах этих операторов). Другие операторы: СЦС Совинтел, Компания ТрансТелеКом, МТТ, Эквант и т.д.
После «десятки» или ее аналогов сразу набирается код страны. В данном случае это Вьетнам, то есть набирается 84. Эти две цифры набираются без знака плюса. Плюс перед 84 используется при сотовой связи.

Набор номера из Вьетнама в Россию
Вначале — о начальных цифрах при наборе.
При выходе на международную связь с телефона фиксированной или сотовой связи во Вьетнаме первой набираются 00 (два ноля). Затем набирается код России (7).
Затем после семерки должно идти 10 цифр. Если номера в городе В России семизначные, то код города состоит из 3 цифр. Если номера в городе шестизначные, то код города состоит из 4 цифр. Если номера в городе пятизначные, то код города состоит из 5 цифр.
Мобильные номера все 10-значные кроме некоторых случаев.

Внутри населенных пунктов звонки с телефона фиксированной связи на другой телефон фиксированной связи набираются без дополнительных цифр. Для звонков в другие города набирается код территории.
Для выхода на межгород надо набирать не 8, как в России, а 0 (ноль).

Внутри одного города городской номер абонента набирается как обычно, без всяких дополнительных цифр.

Настройки сим-карты в мобильных телефонах во Вьетнаме
При покупке сим-карты можно попросить, чтобы продавец сам подключил и настроил телефон, так как меню составлено на вьетнамском языке. При самостоятельном подключении для активации сим-карты набирают 900 и ждут до полуминуты.
Viettel, активация 3g интернета: отправить смс на номер 161 с текстом 3G ON.
VinaPhone, для активации 3g установить следующие значения: APN: m3-world, Username: mms, Password: mms. При включении мобильного телефона сразу включается 3G с высокой ценой. Поэтому рекомендуется изменить тарифный план.
Mobifone, для безлимитного дешевого тарифа нужно отправить смс на номер 999 с текстом DK MIU.
Отключение рекламы: Super sim > live info > bat/tat dich vu > tat > ok
Пополнение счета вьетнамских сим-карт
При наборе *101# присылается сообщение о состоянии основного счета.
Проверка состояния дополнительного счета: *102# и посыл вызова.
Состояние счета отражается во вьетнамских донгах. Например: 1510 d означает 1510 донгов.
Для пополнения счета набирают: *100*цифры кода карты#. Имеются в виду карты оплаты сотовой связи, которые приобретаются в местах их продаж.
Во Вьетнаме три крупных оператора мобильной связи GSM, которые работают по всей стране и контролируют 90% рынка. Это Mobifone, Vinaphone и Viettel. Разницы в тарифах среди них практически нет, кроме небольшой разницы в покрытии, но это касается только всяких отдалённых мест. Во всех основных туристических центрах качество связи идентично.
Во Вьетнаме нет внутреннего роуминга и, купив симку в Хошимине, можно проехать с ней всю страну и пользоваться ей в Ханое по тем же тарифам.
В посте я расскажу где можно купить сим-карту, как пополнить баланс, как подключить мобильный интернет и сколько стоит позвонить в Россию. Информация актуальна на март 2019.

Туристическая сим-карта
Если вы приехали ненадолго, то нет особого смысла покупать обычную сим-карту. Вам подойдёт туристическая, которая продаётся во всех аэропортах, а также в туристических информационных центрах, например в «Русском информационном центре». С туристической сим-картой вы получите пакет интернета и международных звонков, а после вашего отлёта она просто перестанет работать. Туристическая симка выйдет дороже чем обычная с таким же объёмом трафика примерно на 100 000 VND, но кроме трафика вы получите минуты для звонки на обычные телефоны в другие страны, а также телефонную поддержку на нескольких языках (к сожалению, не на русском). Вот стоимость и условия для туристических сим-карт у основных операторов:
Viettel:
Стоимость карточки от 100 000 до 200 000 VND, плюс к этому вам нужно будет активировать один из пакетов:

Vinaphone:
Симка стоит 300 000 VND и включает в себя 8 Гб интернета, 80 местных минут, 80 СМС и 50 минут для звонков в другие страны. Работать сим-карта будет 30 дней.
Mobifone:
У этой сим-карты свой бренд Way2go Vietnam. Она стоит 250 000 VND и включает в себя 6 Гб интернета, 60 местных минут, 100 местных СМС и 30 минут для звонков в другие страны. Работать будет 30 дней.
Туристическую сим-карту оформлять гораздо быстрее, чем обычную. Это может быть ещё один довод в пользу её покупки. Но если вы приехали во Вьетнам на несколько месяцев, то нужно будет оформить обычную сим-карту.
Где можно купить обычную сим-карту
Раньше купить сим-карту во Вьетнаме не составляло никакого труда, они продавались даже в самых мелких уличных лавках. Местные покупали их на свои паспорта и перепродавали. После ноября 2016, когда власти заблокировали больше 12 миллионов таких сим-карт, найти их очень сложно. Легче поехать в офис оператора и оформить сим-карту там. Не верьте, если вам говорят, что сим-карту может оформить только вьетнамец, я лично оформлял сим-карту в салоне оператора в Нячанге на собственный паспорт и не было никаких проблем. Салоны связи Mobifone, Vinaphone и Viettel можно без труда найти на картах Google.
Пополнение баланса
Пополнить баланс можно на кассах сетевых магазинов (например, VinMart), а также можно купить карты пополнения в частных придорожных магазинчиках. Мы просто говорим: «Мобифон фифти фаузенд», это значит, что у нас оператор Mobifone и мы хотим положить 50 000 VND на счет. И нам дают карточку на эту сумму. Для пополнения счета стираем защитный слой с карточки и видим код. Инструкция активации карты написана на самой карте. Для Мобифона это: *100*номер кода#вызов, узнать баланс: *101#вызов.
Когда вы запросите смс с балансом, то получите очень много разных цифр — не пугайтесь, кроме основного счёта у вас появились промо-счета. Вот расшифровка загадочных сокращений:
- TKC — «tài khoản chính» (основной счёт, ваши деньги): вы можете тратить эти деньги для подключения разных услуг и для звонков на другие сети.
- KM1 — «Khuyến mại 1» (промо-счёт 1): используется для звонков внутри сети, СМС, MMS и прочего.
- KM2 — «Khuyến mại 2» (промо-счёт 2): используется для звонков, СМС, ММС и прочего внутри сети VNPT (Mobifone, Vinaphone).
- KM3 — «Khuyến mại 3» (промо-счёт 3): используется для звонков, СМС, ММС и прочего внутри Вьетнама (вроде бы на все местные операторы, но не уверен точно).
Когда основной счёт пуст, промо-счета не действуют.
Мобильный интернет во Вьетнаме
Все основные операторы сотовой связи во Вьетнаме предоставляют услуги мобильного интернета по стандарту 4G. Качество интернета настолько хорошее, что в некоторых случаях он может выступать как замена плохому интернету в отеле.
О тарифах и о том, как подключать пакеты трафика, написано на сайтах операторов. Для того, чтобы вам было удобнее я выписал некоторые пакеты со стоимостью и инструкцией по подключению сюда.

Если эти настройки не помогут, то вам нужно будет обратиться в салон мобильного оператора или магазин, продающий мобильные телефоны, и попросить настроить вам мобильный интернет. К счастью, всё больше телефонов автоматически получают все настройки.
Международные звонки
В эпоху мессенджеров звонить по обычной связи в другую страну — немного странно. Но всё же бывают случаи, когда по другому никак. Чтобы сэкономить на звонке лучше воспользоваться VoIP — это когда звонок в другую страну идёт через интернет, хотя для вас всё выглядит так как будто вы просто звоните с телефона. Разница, правда, между таким звонком и обычным международным звонком во Вьетнаме не большая: например, у Mobifone VoIP в Россию стоит
3 960 VND
за минуту. А обычный международный звонок будет стоить
4 114 VND
. Примерно та же стоимость для звонков на Украину и в Казахстан и чуть дороже в Белоруссию. Цены указаны для всех российских номеров, кроме тех, у кого код оператора 954. Для этого несчастливого кода цена в 5-6 раз выше. То же самое для белорусских кодов 33344 и 602.
VoIP есть у Mobifone и Vinaphone. Для звонка через Mobifone набирайте 131 + 00 + код страны + номер телефона. Для звонка через Vinaphone 171 + 00 + код страны + номер телефона.
Как сделать использование вьетнамских сим-карт чуть удобнее
Для всех основных операторов есть приложения в Google Play и Apple Store. Скачивайте приложения и запускайте их когда ваш телефон отключён от вай-фая и использует мобильный интернет. В этом случае приложение пройдёт автоматическую аутентификацию и вы увидите остаток вашего баланса, минут и мегабайт. Приложения не блещут современным дизайном и удобством, но поддерживают английский язык и способны дать основную информацию.

The Vietnamobile carrier from Vietnam is denoted by codes: 452 05. The followings IDs are called HNI (Home network identity). This code is created by the combination of two other Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC). The first three numbers stand for the MCC and they are used in order to identify the region which the carried comes from (in the following example it’s Vietnam). The last numbers of the HNI code are equal with the MNC and this ID is given for the specific mobile network operator.
Besides Vietnamobile Vietnam has assigned country code + 84. This number + 84 is equal with international calling code and it’s simply the telephone dialing prefixes used for calling Vietnamobile numbers.
Vietnamobile uses 1 GSM bands, 1 UMTS bands, 0 and 0 CDMA bands.. You can read the specific frequency bands in the table below. All bands of the Vietnamobile are display in MHz units.

Basics[]
There are 4 major GSM network operators in Vietnam:
- Viettel
- Vinaphone
- Mobifone
- Vietnamobile
Two other providers not on the list are Gmobile (formerly Beeline), operating only on 2G so far (they received a 4G/LTE license in 2016, but haven’t started yet). Former CDMA-operator S-Fone has gone bankrupt and its license was revoked.
Coverage and speeds are quite good for SE Asian standards: 2G/GSM is on 900 and 1800 MHz, 3G on 2100 MHz. Viettel and Vinaphone introduced DC-HSPA in 2014, 4G/LTE is just being launched on 1800 and 2600 MHz (bands 3 and 7) after Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobifone and Gmobile received licenses in 2016, Vietnamobile in 2017. The three state-owned operators aim to increase 4G/LTE coverage to 95% each in 2019.
According to OpenSignal report in 2019 4G/LTE availability is between 65% of Vietnamobile and 86% of Viettel which also tops the speed list at 17 Mbit/s download and 6 Mbit/s on average. Generally, Viettel has the best coverage, followed by Vinaphone, Mobifone and Vietnamobile the least.
In 2015, a new numbering plan was introduced and all 11-digit mobile numbers will be shortened to 10 digits. As prices are more or less ruled by the state, there is in fact not much competition going on between the operators and rates are pretty much the same amongst them.
Vietnam is planning to switch off all its 2G networks.
SIM Registration[]
To buy a prepaid SIM card, you have to officially show your ID or passport and need to be registered first, before the SIM card can be activated. But in practice, this was not strictly enforced before 2016. Then the government shut down 12 million falsely registered SIM cards. The rules are now much more strictly applied, that you need to bring your passport and register to activate your SIM card in an official outlet of the provider. Small independent corner shops can’t activate it for you and they may sell a SIM card on somebody else’s identity to you. Sometimes this can be hard to tell, but you can check it (see below).
With these street vendors make sure, that they activate it for you or show where and how to do it. Official registration can done in the major stores of the operators or the seller will direct you to a registration point, where you’ll need to show your passport. Don’t leave the store without instructions, how to activate or with a SIM which is already activated. You can still buy a SIM card at a corner store in town or at the airport. But have in mind that they some of are not properly registered. Even in some airport booths, they still sell them without the legal registration. When you ask for it, they will smile or find an excuse or simply lie to you.
A traveler visiting the country for only a few days may do fine without registration. You only risk that your SIM will be shut off anytime without prior warning. This has been reported after a few days already. There will be no other fine. To avoid losing your credit and allowances in this case, you’ll need to go to a registration point in an official store and re-register your SIM on your real name by showing your passport as required by law.
If you continuously need mobile data, travel through the countryside where there are no registration points and/or stay for longer, it’s now very much recommended to go the legal way by buying and registering your SIM card in a major store of an operator.
Checking registration[]
If you are unsure, where your SIM card has been properly registered, you can text ‘TTTB’ to 1414. This works with any local provider. You should receive an SMS in Vietnamese with your full name, date of birth (in DD/MM/YY format), passport number and possibly place of issue and an subscriber number of the operator. If these data don’t match up or you get a totally different result, you should go to a local operator store with your passport and have it registered, so that it will not be shut off.
Viettel[]
Viettel is owned by the Ministry of Defense and thus the Vietnamese army. It’s the market leader in Vietnam with about 40% of all customers on its network.
It has the best coverage in remote places even on 3G. 4G/LTE was officially launched in April 2017 on 1800 MHz (B3) over 25,000 base stations in almost 95% of the country giving it the best 4G/LTE coverage in the country for now.
As prices don’t differ so much between the 3 major operators, Viettel should be your first choice when you are going to rural areas.
Availability[]
SIM cards are available at the airports and lots of shops in town. Recharge cards are widely available in small shops and on the sidewalks. Shop staff is usually happy to try to help when adding credit, even if they don’t speak a word of English. Best option is to visit a Viettel store in a bigger city. They speak some English and prepare everything for you, even cutting to nano SIM. SIM cards are around 50,000-60,000 VND depending on number with some credit.
Their prepaid brands are called Tomato and Economy and don’t come with data. So you have to book a package. Balance check is *101# for main account and *102# for bonus account. To top-up by voucher, type *100*<voucher PIN>#. The vouchers can be aquired all around town, just look for the Viettel logo. Be aware that Viettel sends a lot of advertising SMS.
Call 191 to get balance or top up through the voice system. You can switch to English by pressing 3 (entering the language menu), second menu press 2 (select English), third menu press 1 to confirm. Type *101# to check your call balance.
Most convenience stores (including Seven-11 and Winmart) sell scratch-off vouchers. Buy the desired amount and load it onto your phone by *100*{voucher-code}# and press enter.
To keep a Viettel SIM card alive is very easy, just do any activity which deducts some amount of your balance every 60 days. Or another choice is sending VTVANG to 109 before you leave the country. This costs you 50.000 VND but it keeps your card safe for 365 days with no worries.
Data feature packages[]
For 4G/LTE, be sure to get one of their new 4G-enabled SIM cards. To install 4G/LTE you may need to text CAUHINH to 107 and they send you the configuration files. These work on 2G and 3G too. Default data is 60 VND per MB.
Two daily packages are offered valid for 24 hours:
- 700 MB: 7,000 VND, activation: ‘MI7D’
- 1 GB: 10,000 VND, activation: ‘MI10D’
Two more packages are for 3 and 7 days:
- 3 GB for 3 days: 15,000 VND, activation: ‘ST15K’
- 7 GB for 7 days: 30,000 VND, activation ‘ST30K’

Tourist SIM[]
Viettel introduced a tourist SIM some years ago for visitors sold mostly at the airports and their big stores. Data on the tourist SIM is much more expensive than on a regular SIM card. It’ might be still a deal, if you want to call overseas. When you route your IDD calls through VoIP, you are better off with a regular or Dcom SIM card.
It’s sold for US$ 5 -10 and needs to be added with one of these plans:

Their data-only SIM card aimed at tablets and routers was opened to 4G/LTE. SIM cards can be switched from/to Tomato. They sell these data bundles for Dcom only :

Vinaphone[]

Vinaphone is the second operator in Vietnam. It’s owned by the government through the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group. It has a market share of 30% and is the local partner of Vodafone. It gives a good coverage and speed throughout the country. 4G/LTE has been started on Phu Quoc island in 2016 and is now rolled out nationwide.

SIM cards are widely available in shops and street kiosks where you see their logo for around 50,000 VND. Top-ups from VND 5,000 to 500,000 extend SIM life 1 to 215 days available at the same stores. To top-up, type *100*<PIN code>#. Check balance by *101# and validity by *102#.
There are different stater packs called VinaCard or similar. It doesn’t make a difference which you choose for data as all have the same data packs.

You may need to activate data first by texting «GPRS ON» to 888. Speed on 3G is a max. of 14.4 Mbps. Default data rate outside of packages is 1.5 VND per KB.

In 2017 they introduced an own Tourist SIM through their subsidiary GCS Vietnam called ‘Global Connection SIM’. It’s sold already pre-activated and doesn’t seem to require any registration.
The validity is strictly for 30 days only and it doesn’t seem to be extendable in volume or time. It’s available in the Vinaphone booths at Hanoi Internatl. Airport at the arrival levels of both terminals or in Hanoi center. For more info in English call (+84) 91 38 8111 or check their website.
They offer these packages with «unlimited» data:

Mobifone[]
Mobifone is the 3rd provider in the country with a 20% market share. It’s in the process of privatization. Speeds and coverage may be good in the centers and around the coast, but can be patchy in the mountains.
From 2016 it has been possible to roam throughout the whole country in the Vinaphone network with a Mobifone prepaid SIM. This seems to have ended in May 2018.
Mobifone’s 4G has started in 2016 in Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC on 1800 and 2600 MHz (Band 3,7) and is open for prepaid without surcharge. It has been rolled out through the country and reached 95% at the end of 2019.

Way2go Vietnam[]
Way2go by Consortio, a subisdiary of Mobifone, now offers a Tourist SIM card called «Way2go Vietnam«. It’s for 250,000 VND and comes with 6 GB data, 60 local minutes, 100 local SMS, 30 minutes of international calls to certain countries all valid for 30 days.
This SIM card is for visiting foreign tourists to Vietnam only and includes a English-speaking support hotline and many travel tipps, discounts and tourist related advertisements. It can also be used with an app available for Android and iOS and for more volume regular Mobifone packages can be added. This SIM card is available at Mobifone stores in the terminals of HCMC, Hanoi and Na Trang airports and selected hotels all over the country (list). A copy of you passport will be made at the point of purchase for registration.
To activate dial 900, to check balance *101# or phone number *0#. For all included international calls you have to use prefix 1313.

Vietnamobile[]
Vietnamobile is the smallest of the 4 providers and the only one that is privately owned. It gives out the low prices in Vietnam and has a market share of under 2.5%.
In 2011 they started with 3G services in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hanoi, but since then 3G coverage has been expanded to Ba Ria-Vung Tau, An Giang, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Dong Thap, Long An, Dong Nai, Thai Nguyen and Binh Duong. In 2017 it covers 90% of the population in all 63 cities and provinces by 3G, but coverage is still lower as on the state-owned providers. They have been awarded a 4G/LTE license, but it’s still much more restricted than on the state-owned providers.
Generally, Vietnamobile can’t recommended for data use at this time.
Availability[]
In the major towns you have to look for their logo to find an outlet first, as their English online store locator is not working. But, you can try your luck here: [1] Starter kits come in different varieties. Their standard VMOne is sold for 25,000 VND with 10,000 credit, valid for 30 days. Other kits may be higher with more credit preloaded.
Top-ups are by scratch cards of 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 VND valid for 3 to 180 days depending on value. You get a bonus of 100% for the first 10 recharges of 20k or higher.

You may have to enable 3G/4G data by typing *345#. Default rate outside of package is 75 VND per 15 KB, overuse fee as long as package is still on is 75 VND per 15 KB. They offer these packages or special scratch cards for data:

Coverage and speeds are quite good for SE Asian standards: 2G/GSM is on 900 and 1800 MHz, 3G on 2100 MHz. Viettel and Vinaphone introduced DC-HSPA in 2014, 4G/LTE is just being launched on 1800 and 2600 MHz (bands 3 and 7) after Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobifone and Gmobile received licenses in 2016, Vietnamobile in 2017. The three state-owned operators aim to increase 4G/LTE coverage to 95% each in 2019.
According to OpenSignal report in 2019 4G/LTE availability is between 65% of Vietnamobile and 86% of Viettel which also tops the speed list at 17 Mbit/s download and 6 Mbit/s on average. Generally, Viettel has the best coverage, followed by Vinaphone, Mobifone and Vietnamobile the least.
In 2015, a new numbering plan was introduced and all 11-digit mobile numbers will be shortened to 10 digits. As prices are more or less ruled by the state, there is in fact not much competition going on between the operators and rates are pretty much the same amongst them.
Vietnam is planning to switch off all its 2G networks.
SIM Registration[]
To buy a prepaid SIM card, you have to officially show your ID or passport and need to be registered first, before the SIM card can be activated. But in practice, this was not strictly enforced before 2016. Then the government shut down 12 million falsely registered SIM cards. The rules are now much more strictly applied, that you need to bring your passport and register to activate your SIM card in an official outlet of the provider. Small independent corner shops can’t activate it for you and they may sell a SIM card on somebody else’s identity to you. Sometimes this can be hard to tell, but you can check it (see below).
With these street vendors make sure, that they activate it for you or show where and how to do it. Official registration can done in the major stores of the operators or the seller will direct you to a registration point, where you’ll need to show your passport. Don’t leave the store without instructions, how to activate or with a SIM which is already activated. You can still buy a SIM card at a corner store in town or at the airport. But have in mind that they some of are not properly registered. Even in some airport booths, they still sell them without the legal registration. When you ask for it, they will smile or find an excuse or simply lie to you.
A traveler visiting the country for only a few days may do fine without registration. You only risk that your SIM will be shut off anytime without prior warning. This has been reported after a few days already. There will be no other fine. To avoid losing your credit and allowances in this case, you’ll need to go to a registration point in an official store and re-register your SIM on your real name by showing your passport as required by law.
If you continuously need mobile data, travel through the countryside where there are no registration points and/or stay for longer, it’s now very much recommended to go the legal way by buying and registering your SIM card in a major store of an operator.
Checking registration[]
If you are unsure, where your SIM card has been properly registered, you can text ‘TTTB’ to 1414. This works with any local provider. You should receive an SMS in Vietnamese with your full name, date of birth (in DD/MM/YY format), passport number and possibly place of issue and an subscriber number of the operator. If these data don’t match up or you get a totally different result, you should go to a local operator store with your passport and have it registered, so that it will not be shut off.
Viettel[]
Viettel is owned by the Ministry of Defense and thus the Vietnamese army. It’s the market leader in Vietnam with about 40% of all customers on its network.
It has the best coverage in remote places even on 3G. 4G/LTE was officially launched in April 2017 on 1800 MHz (B3) over 25,000 base stations in almost 95% of the country giving it the best 4G/LTE coverage in the country for now.
As prices don’t differ so much between the 3 major operators, Viettel should be your first choice when you are going to rural areas.
Availability[]
SIM cards are available at the airports and lots of shops in town. Recharge cards are widely available in small shops and on the sidewalks. Shop staff is usually happy to try to help when adding credit, even if they don’t speak a word of English. Best option is to visit a Viettel store in a bigger city. They speak some English and prepare everything for you, even cutting to nano SIM. SIM cards are around 50,000-60,000 VND depending on number with some credit.
Their prepaid brands are called Tomato and Economy and don’t come with data. So you have to book a package. Balance check is *101# for main account and *102# for bonus account. To top-up by voucher, type *100*<voucher PIN>#. The vouchers can be aquired all around town, just look for the Viettel logo. Be aware that Viettel sends a lot of advertising SMS.
Call 191 to get balance or top up through the voice system. You can switch to English by pressing 3 (entering the language menu), second menu press 2 (select English), third menu press 1 to confirm. Type *101# to check your call balance.
Most convenience stores (including Seven-11 and Winmart) sell scratch-off vouchers. Buy the desired amount and load it onto your phone by *100*{voucher-code}# and press enter.
To keep a Viettel SIM card alive is very easy, just do any activity which deducts some amount of your balance every 60 days. Or another choice is sending VTVANG to 109 before you leave the country. This costs you 50.000 VND but it keeps your card safe for 365 days with no worries.
Data feature packages[]
For 4G/LTE, be sure to get one of their new 4G-enabled SIM cards. To install 4G/LTE you may need to text CAUHINH to 107 and they send you the configuration files. These work on 2G and 3G too. Default data is 60 VND per MB.
Two daily packages are offered valid for 24 hours:
- 700 MB: 7,000 VND, activation: ‘MI7D’
- 1 GB: 10,000 VND, activation: ‘MI10D’
Two more packages are for 3 and 7 days:
- 3 GB for 3 days: 15,000 VND, activation: ‘ST15K’
- 7 GB for 7 days: 30,000 VND, activation ‘ST30K’

Tourist SIM[]
Viettel introduced a tourist SIM some years ago for visitors sold mostly at the airports and their big stores. Data on the tourist SIM is much more expensive than on a regular SIM card. It’ might be still a deal, if you want to call overseas. When you route your IDD calls through VoIP, you are better off with a regular or Dcom SIM card.
It’s sold for US$ 5 -10 and needs to be added with one of these plans:

Vinaphone is the second operator in Vietnam. It’s owned by the government through the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group. It has a market share of 30% and is the local partner of Vodafone. It gives a good coverage and speed throughout the country. 4G/LTE has been started on Phu Quoc island in 2016 and is now rolled out nationwide.

In 2017 they introduced an own Tourist SIM through their subsidiary GCS Vietnam called ‘Global Connection SIM’. It’s sold already pre-activated and doesn’t seem to require any registration.
The validity is strictly for 30 days only and it doesn’t seem to be extendable in volume or time. It’s available in the Vinaphone booths at Hanoi Internatl. Airport at the arrival levels of both terminals or in Hanoi center. For more info in English call (+84) 91 38 8111 or check their website.

Mobifone[]
Mobifone is the 3rd provider in the country with a 20% market share. It’s in the process of privatization. Speeds and coverage may be good in the centers and around the coast, but can be patchy in the mountains.
From 2016 it has been possible to roam throughout the whole country in the Vinaphone network with a Mobifone prepaid SIM. This seems to have ended in May 2018.
Mobifone’s 4G has started in 2016 in Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC on 1800 and 2600 MHz (Band 3,7) and is open for prepaid without surcharge. It has been rolled out through the country and reached 95% at the end of 2019.

Way2go Vietnam[]
Way2go by Consortio, a subisdiary of Mobifone, now offers a Tourist SIM card called «Way2go Vietnam«. It’s for 250,000 VND and comes with 6 GB data, 60 local minutes, 100 local SMS, 30 minutes of international calls to certain countries all valid for 30 days.
This SIM card is for visiting foreign tourists to Vietnam only and includes a English-speaking support hotline and many travel tipps, discounts and tourist related advertisements. It can also be used with an app available for Android and iOS and for more volume regular Mobifone packages can be added. This SIM card is available at Mobifone stores in the terminals of HCMC, Hanoi and Na Trang airports and selected hotels all over the country (list). A copy of you passport will be made at the point of purchase for registration.
To activate dial 900, to check balance *101# or phone number *0#. For all included international calls you have to use prefix 1313.

Vietnamobile[]
Vietnamobile is the smallest of the 4 providers and the only one that is privately owned. It gives out the low prices in Vietnam and has a market share of under 2.5%.
In 2011 they started with 3G services in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hanoi, but since then 3G coverage has been expanded to Ba Ria-Vung Tau, An Giang, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Dong Thap, Long An, Dong Nai, Thai Nguyen and Binh Duong. In 2017 it covers 90% of the population in all 63 cities and provinces by 3G, but coverage is still lower as on the state-owned providers. They have been awarded a 4G/LTE license, but it’s still much more restricted than on the state-owned providers.
Generally, Vietnamobile can’t recommended for data use at this time.
Availability[]
In the major towns you have to look for their logo to find an outlet first, as their English online store locator is not working. But, you can try your luck here: [1] Starter kits come in different varieties. Their standard VMOne is sold for 25,000 VND with 10,000 credit, valid for 30 days. Other kits may be higher with more credit preloaded.
Top-ups are by scratch cards of 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 VND valid for 3 to 180 days depending on value. You get a bonus of 100% for the first 10 recharges of 20k or higher.
Data feature package[]
You may have to enable 3G/4G data by typing *345#. Default rate outside of package is 75 VND per 15 KB, overuse fee as long as package is still on is 75 VND per 15 KB. They offer these packages or special scratch cards for data:
